Semi-privatisation may fix transport reliability issues, say analysts

More competitors would also be healthy.

Singaporeans have been clamoring for more reliable transport services, and state ownership on transport companies would be a sustainable solution.

Analysts from DBS said a gradual shift to this system is actually already underway, citing the Government Bus Contracting model for public scheduled buses.

"Such trend will likely gain momentum going forward," DBS said.

DBS also adds that a solution of state ownership would be best complemented with more competition for the tender contracts for day-to-day operation.

They also suggest higher penalties which would help keep service operators on their toes.
