Singapore’s impeccable transport system reeks of one flaw: study

It’s the best, but there’s a catch.

Singapore’s transportation system has often been lauded as one of the best in the world. A study released today by Siemens and London-based consulting firm Credo further affirmed this, but it also pointed out a glaring weakness that demands quick investment and attention.

According to the study, “Singapore’s only immediate weakness is a relatively low network density which leaves some areas poorly connected. However, long term development plans and continuous investment to maintain the existing high standards are all that is required for it to retain its position."

The study nonetheless praised the reliability and punctuality of the country’s transport system, as well as the fact that almost all of its public transport vehicles are air-conditioned.

The results show that Singapore is the best in the “High-density compact centers” category. Other best cities include Copenhagen, Denmark for the “Well-established cities” category, and Santiago, Chile for the category of “Emerging cities”.
