Singapore’s will install 2,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the island as part of its bid to encourage the use of vehicles that are more environmentally-friendly, transport minister Khaw Boon Wan said in a speech that
He noted that a the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Economic Development Board had earlier issued a Request for Information to invite proposals for a nationwide electric car-sharing programme.
Apart from trialling electric car-sharing services, the programme will also see the installation of 2,000 charging points across Singapore. The proposals are in the final stages of evaluation.
“All that said, the greenest form of transport is public transport. Even though electric cars produce no tailpipe emissions, the process of generating the electricity they consume emits carbon. We must move towards a car-lite society,” he added.
