SingPost pilots Singapore’s first postal collection via SMRT trains
Mail ambassadors will be assigned to Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations.
Singapore Post (SingPost) and Stellar Lifestyle of SMRT Corp. have teamed up to kick off Singapore’s first postal collection services via MRT trains.
The initiative was part of a Memorandum of Understanding, which the two partners recently inked intending to deploy more postal service points near MRT stations.
Starting Tuesday, 25 June, certain mail ambassadors of SingPost will use the Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations to bring postal items to SingPost’s sorting facility near Paya Lebar MRT station daily.
The trial run will last three months as SingPost assesses the operational cost efficiencies and carbon emission savings in utilizing MRT trains to collect postal items. Should the pilot succeeds, the partners will expand the initiative to include more train stations in other SMRT-operated lines.
In March, SingPost opened its first standalone POPStop counter at Tampines MRT station where commuters can drop off their parcels.
