The steel contractor and specialist civil engineering solutions provider clinches first Downtown Line 2 project to start in October of this year.
Yongnam Holdings Limited confirms on Tuesday that it has been awarded its first contract for the MRT Downtown Line 2 (DTL 2) valued at S$25.0 million. According to a Yongnam release, the contract is part of the C918 contract package, one of several packages for the DTL 2.
Mr Seow Soon Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Yongnam said, “We are delighted to have secured this contract, the Group’s first for the DTL 2 project. The MRT is one of Singapore’s major infrastructural projects and Yongnam continues to strengthen its brand name and track record. The Group will build on the experience from its previous MRT projects including the recent Circle Line projects.”
The 16.6km long Downtown Line 2 comprises of one depot and 12 stations including three interchange stations. DTL 2 will link to the North-East Line, the North-South Line and the Circle line, giving commuters greater accessibility to the rest of Singapore and significantly reduce travelling time.
Yongnam said the contract comprises of a Cut and Cover Tunnel and the Tan Kah Kee station, serving commuters in the Bukit Timah area including schools like Hwa Chong Institution, Nanyang Girls and National Junior College.
The civil engineering group is expected to support the main contractor, ALPINE Bau GMBH (Singapore branch) in the supply, lease, installation and removal of steel struts and walers for the Tan Kah Kee Station and the Cut and Cover Tunnel.
Work on the contract will start in October 2010, with expected completion in October 2013.
