49,000 construction jobs created in 2023: report
Engineers were the most in-demand in the industry this year.
Singapore’s construction sector created close to 49,000 jobs in 2023 as demand for certain roles increased.
Below is a table of the most in-demand construction roles this year.
According to foundit, the surge in infrastructure projects, including residential and commercial developments, infrastructure upgrades, and government initiatives, fueled the demand for construction jobs.
Sustainability and innovation within construction practices also opened up new job roles, especially in green construction and smart infrastructure development.
In 2024, foundit expects a 4% surge in construction job roles "propelled by a mix of renewable energy ventures and burgeoning commercial and private housing projects."
"Infrastructure developments, spanning residential and commercial expansions, alongside governmental initiatives, are set to be instrumental in driving this sector's upward momentum. The industry's unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation, especially in green construction and smart infrastructure, will continue to steer this positive trajectory. However, the ongoing challenge of labour shortage in the sector remains a notable concern amid this promising growth outlook,” Sekhar Garisa, CEO of foundit, said.
