Did ST Engineering contracts dry up last quarter?
Two sectors in the engineering conglomerate showed resilient strength to win $350 million in contracts in 4Q2011.
ST Engineering's electronics and marine sectors bagged a string of major projects, including a Taiwan communications systems project and some ship conversions and repairs.
The Taiwan contract, won through ST Electronics, will involve the design and installation of a communications system for the Taichung City LRT Green Line, said ST Engineering in a disclosure to the Singapore Exchange.
"Work on the 16.5km, 18 above ground stations project will start in the first quarter of 2012 and is expected to be completed by 2017," said ST Engineering in a release.
Taichung is the third Taiwanese city to secure MRT communication contracts with ST Electronics, with the earlier two being capital Taipei and Kaohsiung.
Meanwhile, the ST Marine subsidiary also bagged a contract to upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and piping systems of Castoro 8, a vessel from Saipem (Portugal) Comercio Maritimo. Delivery is slated for 2Q2012.
Locally, ST Electronics and ST Marine will also be in charge of added works on the Singapore Navy landing ship tanks. Upgrades will include cover modifications, combat system upgrades and helicopter support facilities improvements.
