3 in 10 Singaporeans guilty of not using mobile device security
It's surprising for a mobile phone-addicted city.
According to the Norton Cybercrime Report 2012 conducted in July last year, an alarming 3 out of 10 Singaporeans choose not to use any mobile security solution, with another 4 out of 10 not even aware of such solutions.
When they do not protect their mobile devices, they also lose control over the protection and recovery of sensitive and personal content on their mobile devices.
61% had to rely on their mobile service provider to disable their device – by which time it might be too late. Only 23% of Singaporeans who lost their mobile devices tried to locate their devices using tracking software, and an even less 13% would wipe their devices using the web.
While the average financial cost of replacing a mobile device is $323.30 in Singapore, the real cost is much greater.
The survey also found out that Singaporeans rely heavily on their mobile devices, with 55% considering themselves to be addicted to them and 49% sharing that they would save their mobile devices as the top two personal items from a fire.
In addition, Singaporeans practice good mobile online habits, such as downloading applications from trusted sources and not saving important personal information on their devices.
Singaporeans also feel safe when online with their mobile devices due to these safe practices on mobile.
