75% of IT leaders cite talent shortage as hindrance to cloud transformation

The dearth of IT talent has led companies to rely on external expertise.

About 75% of IT leaders cited talent shortage as a hindrance to their businesses' cloud transformation, data from Rackspace Technology's Multicloud Annual Research Report 2022 showed.

To lure in talent, most companies (43%) promote opportunities for training and development, offer hybrid/flexible/work-from-home schedules (37%), or increase starting salaries (31%), according to the report.

Some companies are even going as far as offering large starting salaries or increases (23%), a sign-on retention agreement (16%), and signing bonuses (15%).

Due to the dearth of IT  talent, companies rely on external expertise to achieve their cloud goals, Jeff DeVerter, chief technology evangelist of Rackspace Technology, said.

The need for outside expertise is also driven by the issue of security, which IT leaders cite as their biggest barrier (51%) to using serverless.

About 28% of those surveyed say their applications currently run on serverless technology, whilst 56% expressed plans to run on serverless applications.
