AirTrunk opens new SGP1 data centre

It offers over 20,000 square metres of data hall area.

Hyperscale data centre specialist AirTrunk has launched AirTrunk SGP1, its new data centre in Singapore amidst the company’s rapid expansion in Asia Pacific.

Offering more than 60 megawatts (MW), SGP1 data centre has over 20,000 square metres of data hall area and is designed for hyperscale customers. The centre has opened its first 30 MW phase, which will be followed by a second phase already under construction.

SGP1 was completed despite challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID-19 has accelerated already increasing demand for hyperscale data centre infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region. We build our hyperscale facilities at record speed, but safely and to the highest quality standard,” AirTrunk founder and chief executive officer Robin Khuda said.

The new data centre is designed with a range of innovations to deliver a highly efficient power usage effectiveness of 1.25.

“The shift to cloud-based solutions lowers total electricity consumption overheads and emissions, providing a more energy efficient solution for our customers and reducing the environmental impact,” Khuda said.

SGP1 joins other AirTrunk hyperscale data centres in Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan.
