Chart of the Day: 84.4% of Singaporeans use social media

A total of 4.96 million social media users were recorded in January 2021.

This chart from BestinSingapore shows the number of Singaporeans currently using social media.

84.4% of Singapore's population, or 4.96 million, currently use social media. The number is expected to grow even further, estimated to be at 5.04 million by 2024.

Overall, Youtube tops the sites with the most visits from Singaporeans with 152 million. Facebook follows next with 98.7 million and Instagram, with 21.8 million.

User-base wise, Youtube has largest number of followers from Singapore with 4.4 million users. Facebook closely lags behind with 4.06 million users.

Regarding messaging applications, 87% of Singaporeans look to WhatsApp, a larger percentage when compared to Messenger and Wechat.

Meanwhile, an app that’s shown significant growth is Tiktok. Over 3 years, the app has gained a user base of 1.5 billion globally. This can be attributed to the younger crowd it targets.

Not all sites received growth, however, as Snapchat’s user base dropped by 15.7% over two years. This amounts to 50,000 users.
