Cyber threats in SG rise 17.6% MoM in Q2
Over one million cyber threats were detected in Singapore.
Cyber threats detected in Singapore totalled 1,817,635 in Q2, an increase of 17.6% from the previous quarter.
With the increase, Singapore also moved 23 places up in Kaspersky's top countries for web threats, placing 86th globally.
In Q122, Singapore placed 109th.
According to Kaspersky, the most common methods used by cybercriminals to penetrate systems in Singapore include exploiting vulnerabilities in browsers and their plugins (drive-by download), and social engineering.
“Cyber threats occur daily and cybercriminals are getting more sophisticated in their methods. Although authorities in Singapore have been proactive in deterring and detecting threats as seen in the formation of the Digital and Intelligence Service, countering cyber threats requires a whole-of-society approach. We need to continue to educate individuals and businesses on the importance of good cyber-hygiene habits to reduce the risk of being a victim of a cyber-attack," said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky.
