Singtel to co-develop data centres in Thailand with Gulf Energy and AIS
This is pursuant to the September 2021 MOU between Singtel and Gulf Energy.
As part of a Joint Development Agreement with Gulf Energy Development Public Company Ltd. (Gulf Energy) and Advanced Info Services Public Company Ltd. (AIS), Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (Singtel) will serve as a joint developer and operator of data centres in Thailand.
This is following an earlier Memorandum of Understanding signed by both Singtel and Gulf Energy last 30 September 2021.
The move is part of Singtel’s strategy to establish a regional data centre business with associates through the use of digital infrastructure.
AIS is currently one of Thailand’s leading telecommunications companies and is also a regional associate of Singtel. The group is focused on local data centre operations information and connectivity solutions for the data centre business, which is set to complement Singtel’s data centre background.
Meanwhile, Gulf Energy is the country’s largest private power producer, with the company also providing access to land, power, and its local business network. Green energy will also be covered by the company.
Site selection has already commenced for the project, with the three agreeing to work closely to establish the joint venture.
