Singtel rolls out 5G use cases
Singtel is the fastest 5G network operator in Singapore, according to Ookla.
Singtel launched 5G Standalone use cases that span from entertainment to mobility in its “Powering Up Singapore with 5G” event, 30 August.
In a press release, Singtel also announced that two-thirds of Singapore was covered by their 5G network. Included in this are sites such as Choa Chu Kang, Punggol, Sembawang and Tampines, with indoor coverage being bolstered by the addition of areas like Funan, West Mall, Tampines Mall and Northpoint City.
Several partnerships the group announced include 5G-powered remote racing with Formula Square, 4K live streaming with S.E.A Aquarium, collaborations with National Gallery Singapore and Esplanade - Theaters on the Bay, as well a partnership with Samsung and Zoom that aims to introduce a Productivity Data Pass plan focusing on data-free access to the video conferencing platform.
Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information, focused on how 5G plays an important role in society.
“Mobile networks and data exchanges are key building blocks for the digital infrastructure. 5G, which promises to be ultra-fast and supports near-zero latency, can change the way we live and work in profound ways, and become essential for the digital developments of the future. Building a digital future is certainly about the hardware, software, systems and standards. It is equally about the people and skills. For that, the government will continue to invest in reskilling and upskilling our people so that they can achieve not just digital literacy but digital mastery. This way, everyone can benefit from the infrastructure.”
Singtel was recognized by Ookla as the fastest-growing 5G network operator in the first half of 2021 for clocking in the highest median mobile network speed.
