STB adopts Google Cloud Immersive Stream
The service can be used to stream immersive augmented reality experiences.
Google Cloud's Immersive Stream for XR service has been rolled out for public preview and has already been adopted by Singapore Tourism Board, Ford, and BMW amongst others.
The service which enables photorealism on any mobile device allows users to stream immersive 3D and Augmented Reality experiences without the need for an application.
In Singapore Tourism Board's case, for example, the service is being used to create "next-generation travel planning experiences" and enable the "cinematic discovery of Singapore."
As for Ford, the service has been used to create an immersive virtual showroom.
"Using any mobile device, prospective Ford buyers can explore the exterior and interior of vehicles like the Next-Gen Ranger, tap on 3D hotspots to discover key features, configure their ideal vehicle in 3D, digitally place the vehicle in their driveway or real-world environment, and then make a purchase decision directly from their phone," Google Cloud shared.
BMW, meanwhile, uses the services to allow their customers in North America to " digitally place the BMW iX and BMW i4 car models into any real-world environment in vivid detail with usable virtual features, such as changing paint colours, lighting elements, and more."
Other players that use the feature are telecommunication company KDDI and Lowe’s Innovation Labs.
