Keppel O&M bags contracts to build LNG carriers for $105m

The new LNG carriers will each have a capacity of 7,500 cubic metres.Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) clinched two more contracts to build two additional small-scare LNG carriers worth $105m for UK transport firm Stolt-Nielsen Gas. Similar to the first two units, the next two LNG carriers which will be built will each have a capacity of 7,500 cubic metres. They will also feature engines that can run on both diesel and LNG. To be completed in Q4 2020 and Q1 2021 respectively, the carriers will have a class notation for bunkering which enables the provision of LNG bunkering services if required. ““These LNG carriers will be the 4 th and 5th vessels capable of LNG bunkering as well as the 11th and 12th LNG powered vessels that Keppel will be building,” Keppel O&M managing director for gas & specialised vessels Abu Bakar said. “We look forward to furthering this track record as the industry increasingly adopts LNG as a marine fuel.” According to an announcement, three options were granted to Stolt-Nielsen Gas as part of the original contract signed in May 2017 between Keppel Singmarine and Stolt-Nielsen Gas to build two LNG carriers. The first option lapsed in November 2017, whilst the second and third options will be exercised by Stolt-Nielsen Gas through the contract.
