Green living: 77% of Singaporeans prefer to dwell in green buildings

They are even willing to pay more to live in environmentally-friendly spaces.

With most Singaporeans (90%) becoming environmentally cautious, the preference for living in green buildings has also increased.

According to a Schneider Electric Survey, 77% of Singaporeans now prefer to live in green spaces,  higher than last year's percentage of 47%.

Of those wanting to live in green buildings, 46% said they are also willing to pay more to live in such spaces.

In their homes, most Singaporeans also observe climate efforts like reducing their household electricity use (89%) and are even keen to install a simple and affordable solution to monitor their household’s energy consumption daily if it was available (98%).

Singaporeans (78%) are also supportive of increasing renewable energy sources in the state’s energy mix, even if it means higher electricity bills. When selecting an electricity provider and plan, 80% of Singaporeans check whether renewable energy sources are being used.

Outside their homes, 72% of Singaporeans increased their use of public transport to at least three times per week.

Meanwhile, the study also found that apart from their homes, most Singaporeans (81%) also prefer their workplace to be environmentally friendly.
