Here’s what to watch out for in the upcoming Tengah “Forest Town”
It’s the first smart and car-lite community.
The masterplan for Tengah indicates the newest HDB town is going to be the first in many development aspects as it will fuse smart living and environment sustainability in one community.
HDB will collaborate with the National Parks Board to turn the residential place into a “Forest Town” that will have a forest corridor about 100-metre wide and 5km long. This walkway will connect the Western Water Catchment Area and the Central Nature Reserve.
“This forest corridor will be planted with rainforest tree species to transform it into a rich forest habitat. Amenities such as hiking trails would be incorporated in the corridor for the community to get close to nature and enjoy the rainforest,” HDB said in a press release.
Aside from green living, HDB will optimise information and communication technology in Tengah to enable smart living aimed at creating a more livable environment abundant with convenience and efficient services.
The Tengah Town Centre will also be Singapore’s first car-free town centre as vehicles will ply underneath the commercial area.
“It will offer a greener, car-lite, people-friendly and pedestrian-friendly environment. All the roads in Tengah will also come with dedicated walking and cycling paths on both sides of the road,” HDB said.
The HDB town in Tengah will house five districts and will provide about 42,000 new homes. Its development along with other areas in the western region is expected to spur opportunities for employment and recreational activities.
