About 10,000 flats set to rise in new housing area in Yishun

Eighty per cent of the units will be for public housing.

The new housing area in Chencharu, Yishun, will bring about 10,000 homes, the Housing Development Board (HDB) said. Eighty per cent of the units will be for public housing.

HDB said the flats in Yishun will cater to families seeking proximity for mutual care and support.

The first BTO project, offering 1,200 units ranging from two-room flexi to five-room flats, will launch in June 2024, with subsequent projects to follow.

For 2024, HDB plans to launch 19,600 build-to-order (BTO) flats.

Meanwhile, HDB is also exploring the development of Gillman Barracks in Bukit Merah as a potential residential neighbourhood.

The site, currently occupied by various uses, is being studied for a mix of public and private housing options, with environmental and heritage studies scheduled from 2Q24 to 1H26.

Stakeholder engagement, including existing tenants at Gillman Barracks, will be a priority, with existing tenants allowed to stay on-site until the end of their tenancies.
