Chart of the Day: Chinese buyers snagged less condo sales in 2019
More foreigners of unspecified origin bought homes in the market.
This chart from EDMUND TIE shows that the share of condos sold to mainland Chinese buyers shrank to 27% amongst foreign homebuyers in 2019, compared to 32.9% in 2018.
Despite this, mainland Chinese buyers contributed the highest proportion of condos sold to foreigners. It is followed by Malaysia and India, which take up 15% and 8% of the pie, respectively. The share of foreign buyers of unspecified origin expanded from 6% to 22% over the same period.
Local buyers still dominate condo sales in 2019, but the proportion of foreigner buyers saw a slight uptick in the last two quarters of 2019 at 7% per quarter.
