Chart of the Day: Malaysian buyers snagged fewer condos in emerging districts

Mainland Chinese homebuyers dominated sales in the region.

This chart from EDMUND TIE shows that the share of condos in the city and emerging districts purchased by Malaysian homebuyers fell to 8% in 2019, compared to 13% in 2018. However, they remained the third biggest homebuyer in the region.

Meanwhile, mainland Chinese constituted the top foreign homebuyer group for private homes in the districts with 29% of the total sales in 2019. It is followed by buyers from India and the USA, commanding 9% and 6% of all sales.

Other nationalities who bought condos in the region include Asians and Europeans.

Districts 1, 2, 4, 7 and 15 comprise the city and emerging districts, where there has been rising prominence in terms of new developments and rejuvenation plans, as well as heightened interest from homebuyers for new launches.
