Lee Hsien Yang to apply for demolition of family home at 38 Oxley Road
He plans to build a small private dwelling that will be held within the family in perpetuity.
Lee Hsien Yang has announced his intention to apply for the demolition of the family home located at 38 Oxley Road in a move to honor his late parents' wishes.
Following the demolition, he plans to construct a small private dwelling that will be held within the family in perpetuity.
“I am the only living executor of my father Lee Kuan Yew’s estate,” he said in a Facebook post.
He noted that Lee Kuan Yew had explicitly requested the house to be demolished “immediately after” his daughter Wei Ling vacated the premises. “It is my duty to carry out his wishes to the fullest extent of the law,” Lee said.
Lee also referenced a statement made by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Parliament in 2015, indicating that the decision to allow demolition would rest with "the Government of the day" upon Wei Ling's passing.
“It has been nine years. That day is today,” he stated.
