MND mulls offering two-room Flexi flats to families in public rental units

They might also be offered a second HDB loan.

The Ministry of National Development is looking at new methods to help public rental families become homeowners again under the Fresh Start Housing Scheme.

Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong said in a blog post that families living in public rental flats may soon be eligible for a Fresh Start Housing Grant, which will reduce the amount that these families need to pay in to get mortgage loans.

These families might also be provided with another HDB concessionary loan, Wong added.

Lastly, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) might consider offering 2-room Flexi flats to these families. These flats are currently only available to the elderly.

"These flats are more affordable due to the shorter lease, and are currently only available to the elderly. We are also studying the possibility of a longer Minimum Occupation Period for these flats," he wrote.
