Cashless, unmanned convenience store opens in Our Tampines Hub
Customers will just pick up items and check them out.
A 24-hour Cheers convenience store will operate on a cashless basis without human interaction in Our Tampines Hub.
The unmanned convenience store will require customers to download the Cheers SG app and add their Visa as a mode of payment.
With the app activated, customers can just come in, pick out what they want and leave. Payments are made automatically in the app via the AI in the store that connects automatically through the app.
According to reports, family members who do not have a smartphone, such as children, will be able to buy from the store as long as their facial biometrics are recorded in a member's app.
The AI is also connected to at least 10 security cameras that will track human behavior to prevent theft and block entry to people who will tamper with the products without paying, according to media reports.
The reports also said that the unmanned Cheers convenience store will be on trial for two to three months and a staff member will be placed to guide customers before going fully unmanned.
Cheers first unmanned and cashless store concept was at Nanyang Polytechnic in 2017.
