Courts Asia to build first megastore in Jakarta by 2014
More than 300 new jobs await.
In a release, Courts Asia Limited, together with its subsidiaries, announced that the site of its first “big-box” in Indonesia will be located in Bekasi, eastern Jakarta.
Scheduled for opening in 2014, the approximately 140,000-square feet, two-storey megastore will be the Group’s largest store to date once it is operational. With a population of more than 2.4 million, Bekasi is Indonesia’s most populated suburb and serves as a bedroom community for Jakarta.
The store will be located in the biggest development area of Bekasi, Kota Harapan Indah, which is already home to major big-box retailers such as Carrefour and Giant. The openings of more big-box retailers, as well as a new shopping mall, are in the pipeline for the shopping strip.
In addition to its retail space of close to 140,000 square feet, the store will also have a 100,000-square feet warehouse, which will also serve upcoming stores within the catchment.
The store will feature Courts’ wide product offerings, from electrical to IT products and home furnishing, as well as some new associated products and Food & Beverage outlets. It is expected to result in a minimum of 300 new job openings, and to contribute to the Group’s financial results from 2014 / 2015.
As stated in the prospectus dated October 8, 2012, the Group plans to use the majority of proceeds from the Enlarged Offering exercise to fund its expansion into Indonesia, which includes the opening of the Bekasi megastore. The Group will also partially recover its capital expenditure from suppliers who contribute towards the cost of new stores.
