1 in 3 consumers want reusable packaging for online purchases
Some who opted for reusable packing did so due to incentives.
One in three consumers in Singapore will opt for reusable packaging for their online purchases if given the option.
This was revealed through the pilot initiative of the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) - Singapore, which aimed to promote the scalability of reusable e-commerce packaging in the country.
Over 15,000 orders were processed during its six-month pilot, which began in April 2022.
The post-pilot survey showed that 81% of the customers who opted for reusable packaging attributed their decision to sustainability concerns, whilst some (37%) did so due to incentives such as discounts.
Those who did not opt for reusable packaging were unaware of the option.
Meanwhile, the pilot also demonstrated an average return rate of 56% across retailers.
Retailers who engaged in active consumer education and sent return reminders witnessed an increased return rate and a reduced time taken for returns by 30%.
