
Chart of the Day: How much are Singaporeans willing to spend on shopping?

This chart from UK mobile tech firm Blis shows that Singaporeans typically spend more on in-store shopping than they do in online shopping, with travel being where they spend the most.“For that reason, retailers may choose to focus their marketing efforts on driving customers to their physical locations,” the report noted.
For instance, they are willing to spend $624 on average for in-store travel-related purchases including air and train tickets and hotels, higher compared to their average spending of $564 when they do it online.

For furniture & home furnishing, Singaporeans spent an average of $497 for in-store purchases and $371 when they buy it online. Notably, Singaporeans spend less for health and beauty products as their purchases hit $98 on average for in-store transactions and $80 for online transactions.
The Blis report found that 56% of Singaporean shoppers still prefer to buy in-store so they can see the quality before they buy a product. Moreover, about a half (49%) of the respondents revealed that they consider shopping as a hobby.
“For that reason, retailers may choose to focus their marketing efforts on driving customers to their physical locations,” the report noted.
