
Domestic wholesale trade dips 1.9%
Industrial & construction machinery sector's sales made the largest decline of 13.2%.
According to SingStat, after seasonal adjustment, domestic sales of the industrial & construction machinery sector reported a quarter-on-quarter decline of 11.0% in second quarter 2012. The timber, paints & construction materials and electronic components sectors reported declines of 6.0% and 1.7% respectively in domestic sales over the previous quarter.

The petroleum & petroleum products and ship chandlers & bunkering sectors also experienced declines of 8.5% and 4.9% respectively in domestic sales, due primarily to decrease in prices. After removing price effect, domestic wholesale trade volume of the petroleum & petroleum products and ship chandlers & bunkering sectors rose 2.0% and 6.2% respectively.
In contrast, domestic sales increases of 13.1% and 11.4% were registered by the household equipment & furniture and general wholesale trade sectors respectively. The telecommunications & computers sector also experienced an increase of 5.8% in domestic sales.
The chemicals & chemical products sector recorded an increase of 6.8% in domestic sales. After excluding price effect, sales volume rose a higher 17.1%.
The industrial & construction machinery and chemicals & chemical products sectors reported double-digit year-on-year declines of 13.2% and 10.5% respectively in domestic sales. Other sectors that experienced year-on-year decreases in domestic sales included timber, paints & construction materials (-8.3%), petroleum & petroleum products (-3.9%) and electronic components (-3.8%).
On the other hand, sectors that registered double-digit year-on-year increases in domestic sales were household equipment & furniture (17.0%), telecommunications & computers (13.9%) and food, beverages and tobacco (10.6%). The general wholesale trade sector reported a smaller increase of 3.3% in domestic sales over second quarter 2011.
