Here’s why Singapore’s consumer companies transcend Southeast Asian counterparts
They are less vulnerable to risks.
Economic turbulence continues to grip the consumer sector, but it seems like local retailers have it all figured out.
According to analysts from RHB research, compared to other Southeast Asian consumer companies, Singapore’s are more diversified geographically and have stronger balance sheets.
Analysts are also expecting the SGD to hold up relatively better against the USD, benefitting companies with high domestic exposure.
Meanwhile, discretionary spending is expected to remain weak, as the economic outlook worsens.
“Potential catalysts are a loosening of foreign talent policies that would bring in more dollar spend as well as reduce companies’ manpower costs, and the lifting of some property cooling measures that may increase household wealth and stimulate more discretionary spending,” RHB said.
