Record monthly sales for Tamil Murasu
Looks like the revamp in 2010 is behind the sales surge to 18,700 copies a weekday.
Tamil Murasu, recorded an all-time high average monthly sales in April 2011. Tamil Murasu sold 18,700 copies – a 14 per cent jump over the previous record – while the Sunday edition saw an even more impressive monthly average of 26,500 copies being sold, representing a 16 per cent spike from the previous high.
The record average monthly sales follow a steady increase since the paper’s revamp in September 2010, but the key reason was that many events in April captured the attention of the Indian community. These include the Cricket World Cup that India hosted and won; the Tamil Nadu elections; the Singapore General Election; and a Read and Win contest in the newspaper.
Mr Patrick Daniel, Director of Tamil Murasu Ltd and Editor-in-Chief of English and Malay Newspapers, SPH, said, “These are truly outstanding numbers. Tamil Murasu has proven that by providing good coverage of issues that matter to readers, our newspapers can remain the main source of news. I must commend the Tamil Murasu team for this achievement.”
