Retail sales up 1.9% in June

This is despite the 5.6% decline in motor vehicles sales.

Retail sales in Singapore posted a 1.9% growth in June with only three segments posting negative sales output.

According to Singapore's Department of Statistics, the motor vehicles sales went down by 5.6% in the said month. Food retailers also posted a decline, down 5.8%. Sales of mini-marts & convenience stores registered a slight dip, down by 1.4%.

In terms of positives, the watches and jewellery segment posted the highest increase in sales, up 12% in June. Petrol Services also ended the month with a robust 9.8% gain.

Other segments posted upticks ranging from 0.7% to 7.3%. 

The total retail sales value in the month was estimated at $3.7b.
