Vehicle sales jumped 50.9%.
Overall retail sales in Singapore rose 7.5% year-on-year in January on back of accelerating car sales, according to latest data from the Department of Statistics (SingStat).
The total retail sales value in January was estimated at $4.1 billion, higher than the $3.8 billion in the same period last year.
Excluding motor vehicle sales, retail sales rose by a more marginal 1.4% year-on-year.
Sales of food & beverage services dropped 0.6% year-on-year. The total sales value of F&B sales was estimated at $685 million, lower than the $689 million in January 2015.
