
Retail sales in Singapore jumped 2.1%

According to the Department of Statistics, retail sales in Singapore (seasonally adjusted) increased 2.1% in May 2013 compared to April 2013. Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales went up by a smaller extent of 0.9%.
Sales of food & beverage services (seasonally adjusted) decreased marginally by 0.3% in May 2013 compared to the previous month. After seasonal adjustment, retailers of telecommunications apparatus & computers recorded a double-digit increase of 17.1% in sales in May 2013 over April 2013.
Similarly, retail sales of motor vehicles, department stores, supermarkets and food & beverages increased between 1.1% and 6.1% compared to the previous month.
On the other hand, retail sales of furniture & household equipment, watches & jewellery and recreational goods recorded decreases of between 2.0% and 6.7% in May 2013 over April 2013.
