What would push Singaporeans to shop on Black Friday?
Adults will only shop if goods are discounted by at least 48%, survey says.
About 54% of 1,001 Singaporean adults have plans to shop during the Black Friday sales but only if prices of goods are discounted by at least 48%, a survey from Finder.com showed.
Amongst the surveyed adults, 15% said they will only partake in the shopping event if prices of goods are discounted by 90%.
Meanwhile, 13% are willing to buy during the sales given a 50% discount, and only 8% are satisfied with a 25% reduction in prices.
The survey also showed that Singaporeans aged 18 to 24 are most likely to shop during the sales season, with 65% of them saying that “any type of discount could catch their eye.”
The sentiment is only shared by 41% of 45- to 54-year-olds, and 46% of adults aged 65 and above.
Compared to women (48%), men are more likely to have their interest “piqued,” according to the survey, with 58% saying they will only shop if the discounts are “big enough.”
“Around half of all Singaporean adults admit they could be enticed to shop if the price is right,” Finder.com’s consumer advocate Susannah Binsted said.
“To avoid making unnecessary purchases, plan your shopping list in advance and have an idea of what you’re in the market for before the sales even hit. You can also ask yourself at the moment if it’s something you’d be willing to pay full price for—if the answer is yes then your discount will be all the more enjoyable,” Binsted added.
