COVID-19 positive Sembcorp mariners transferred out of Tukang Dorm
The marine company apologised to its workers at the dorm.
As of the evening of 14 October 2021, Sembcorp Marine workers staying in the Westlite Jalan Tukang Dormitory who tested COVID-19 positive have been conveyed to a care or recovery facility. A steep increase in positive cases was detected after the company's mandatory routine testing exercise.
Arrangements were made to transfer the workers. Unfortunately, due to the large numbers, there were delays in conveyance to recovery and healthcare facilities. To resolve the logistical challenge, the company worked with the Assurance, Care and Engagement Group under the Ministry of Manpower and the dormitory operator to transport the workers to appropriate care or recovery facilities.
On the afternoon of 15 October, Sembcorp Marine Chief Human Resource Officer Chua San Lye and ACE Group Chief Tung Yui Fai visited the Tukang Dorm. In their interactions with the residents, they assured the workers their concerns will be resolved.
According to Sembcorp, the ACE Group has been reviewing company processes to ensure that it can secure sufficient resources to manage unexpected increases in cases across all dormitories.
