MPA, classification societies collaborate on maritime digitalisation, decarbonisation

The collaboration would allow the parties to shape standards and develop measures in the industry.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with eight internationally recognised classification societies to collaborate on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation.

The collaboration will allow the parties to create standards and technical references, streamline Singapore's Registry of Ships and class notations, and develop industry and workforce capability in autonomous shipping, cyber security, electrification, and zero- and low-carbon fuels.

MPA also authorised the classification societies as recognised organisations to conduct statutory certification, survey, inspection, and audit services for Singapore-registered ships.

Teo Eng Dih, MPA Chief Executive, said that the LOI would pave the way for the parties to shape standards and develop innovative, viable, and cost-effective measures with its trading, green and digital partners and the global maritime community.
