MPA launches map refresh, marketplace to boost sea transport sector
This will also increase digital connectivity and data exchanges.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) launched the Sea Transport Industry Transformation Map (ITM) Refresh and Oceans-X API Marketplace platform to boost the sea transport sector and promote digital connectivity as well as data exchanges.
According to MPA’s press statement, the ITM is the first of 23 ITMs to be refreshed, and laid out a blueprint and key strategies to aid in the growth of maritime amidst the global issues. A tripartite committee will be launched, to enforce the ITM.
Apart from this, the MPA also developed Open/Common Exchange And Network Standardisation Application Programming Interface (API) eXchange (OCEANS-X) platform to create a common marketplace for data consumers, providers and app developers to search, subscribe, and deploy government-to-government and business-to-government APIs efficiently so that systems can connect digitally.
The marketplace platform will also allow port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics service providers, and government agencies to connect and facilitate port call optimisation as well as boost supply chain resiliency, the MPA added.
It will also speed up innovation and level the playing field for marine tech firms, start-ups and small and medium enterprises where they can use the digital infrastructure to increase their business opportunities.
During the launch of the platforms, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat underscored “continuous maritime investment, digitalisation for efficiency, and decisive green transition” for Singapore and the global maritime industry.
