Sembmarine improves meals, vaccination status at Tukang Dorm
The company says it will continue to welcome feedback from workers.
Sembcorp Marine (Sembmarine) took steps to ensure food safety for its workers residing at Westlite Jalan Tukang Dormitory (Tukang Dorm) after they expressed concerns about food hygiene and preparation.
It has also commenced an investigation into allegations of foreign objects within the food. The workers highlighted that the food was not tailored to their dietary preferences, to which the company involved the caterer to allow them to receive feedback directly from the workers. Throughout the week of 18 October, company representatives visited Tukang Dorm during meal times to get immediate feedback on the quality of the catered daily meals.
As of 21 October, 67% of the 1,400 workers at Tukang Dorm have undergone serology tests, with approximately 53% of them have had their vaccination status records updated in the National Immunisation Registry (NIR).
Sembmarine is also making Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines available to its workers who have not met the criteria for registration in the NIR. A vaccination exercise for the workers has been ongoing since 19 October.
Assurance, Care, and Engagement Group Director Lam Meng Chon from the Ministry of Manpower shared the current public health protocols and vaccination registration process in Singapore with the workers before the vaccination exercise. Lam also addressed questions and concerns raised by the workers.
