Singapore to develop digital platforms for maritime sector
This is to deepen collaboration and strengthen linkages within trade.
As it eyes the digitalisation of the maritime sector, the Singapore government announced the development of two new platforms will help shipping players.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of SEA Asia 2017, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Khaw Boon Wan said the Maritime Authority of Singapore is in the process of developing the Maritime Single Window, a portal that will allow for submitting documents required for port clearance.
Another is the development of the National Trade Platform, an integrated, one-stop portal that aims to connect shippers, government agencies, logistic players, shipping lines, and ports.
Meanwhile, Khaw also noted that the government is taking steps to help firms develop its capabilities to succeed in digitalisation. He cites MPA's enhanced Maritime Cluster Fund as an example. Khaw noted that the fund now provides more co-funding for companies that want to utilise technology to optimise their business processes.
