ST Engineering, Wilhelmsen Ship Services to develop unmanned shore-to-ship parcels

The former will provide flight tests and development services for system integration.

ST Engineering and Norway-based Wilhelmsen Ships Services (WSS) will be developing and testing solutions for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) unmanned shore-to-ship parcels in Singapore, according to a news release.

For this venture, ST Engineering will provide flight tests and technology development services for system integration and solution prototyping. Key technologies include precision landing on-board ship vessel’s metallic platform, non line-of-sight datalink and parcel delivery authentication and release system.

The project will receive funding as part of the call for proposal by the Civil Authority Aviation of Singapore (CAAS) and the Singapore Ministry of Transport.

In 2018, ST Engineering inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CAAS to facilitate the development of BVLOS Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the country. In January 2019, DroNet, an end-to-end solution that uses advanced unmanned technologies through a network system to carry out specific tasks or services, was granted the first BVLOS permit for trial operations in Singapore.
