Singapore Airport stuck in Top 30 in World rankings
It remained in 26th place in May with only 58.65% of flights departing on time.
Despite the improvement from its April performance of 53.17% on-time departures, the Singapore airport failed to move up in the Top 30 World Airports ranking by FlightStats.
Tokyo continued to dominate with an impressive 94.73% on-time performance, while down from 95.74% from April, was still far ahead of second-place Bangkok with 87.41% on-time flights.
Hong Kong edged out Singapore by one place, ranking 25th with 69.49% on-time departures.
Asian airports, with a few exceptions, paled in performance compared to their US, European and Australian counterparts.
Still, the bright spot for Singapore is that its monthly on-time rate is increasing while its late performance is declining. Compared to April, late flights (15 - 29 minutes) dipped to 27.01% from 29.38% last month; very late flights (30 - 44 minutes) lowered to 7.90% from 9.50%; and excessive late flights (44 minutes up) came down to 6.44% from 7.95%.
