Singapore Airlines passenger load factor slipped 4.8% in February 2011
The passenger load factor declined to 75.1 per cent due to a decline in systemwide passenger carriage and increase in capacity.
According to Singapore Airlines, they recorded a 1.0% yoy decrease in systemwide passenger carriage while capacity grew by 5.4%
The number of passengers carried grew 0.6% over the same month in 2010 to 1.27 million.
Capacity was added to several destinations which includes Manchester, Houston, Osaka and Seoul.
Exclduing East Asia, all regions experienced declines in PLFs over the same month last year. For the other regions, declines in PLF were partly due to a smaller volume of low fare promotion traffic this year.
The 3.8% drop in cargo load factor (compared to the same month in 2010) was due to the 3.6% growth in overall cargo traffic and 10.1% growth in cargo capacity.
CLFs declined for all regions as cargo traffic did not keep pace with capacity increases, said Singapore Airlines.
The large decline in East Asia's CLF was due to the seasonal slow airfreight activities across CNY holidays.
