Tiger Airways passengers increase 6% in September
But Tiger Airways Australia decline in passenger numbers due to reduced capacity and on a limited schedule relative to September 2010.
From October 2010 to September 2011, a total of 5.9 million passengers chose to fly with Tiger Airways, an increase of 6% over the 5.6 million passengers in the preceding 12 months. Average load factor for the 12-month period to September 2011 was 85%, down 1 percentage point compared to the previous 12 months.
For the month of September 2011, Tiger Airways carried 395,000 passengers, a 15% decrease compared to the same month last year. The average load factor across Asia and Australia for the month was 78%, down from 87% in September 2010.
Whilst passenger numbers and load factors for September 2011 were lower year-on-year, they were an improvement from the lows recorded in August 2011.
Tiger Airways Australia operated at reduced capacity and on a limited schedule relative to September 2010, resulting in a decline in passenger numbers.
Positively, Tiger Airways Australia’s load factors improved compared to August 2011, although they were still lower compared to September 2010.
Tiger Airways Australia continues to work with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia in order to increase the number of daily sectors that Tiger Airways Australia is permitted to operate from the current 22 sectors per day, according to a Tiger Airways report.
Tiger Airways Singapore recently increased frequency on a number of existing routes, and has introduced new routes to the Philippines and India.
A new four times weekly service between Singapore and Cebu was introduced in September 2011, with increased frequencies during the peak months of December and January.
Tiger Airways Singapore will also re-introduce services between Singapore and Bangalore from 31 October, whilst thrice weekly services between Singapore and Davao commence in November.
