
5 new plans Singapore is brewing to expand, boost Changi Airport
Total capacity eyed to double to 132m.
According to DBS, there are plans to upgrade and expand Changi Airport with the revamp of T1, new terminals T4 and T5, and an additional runway will double the airport’s total capacity to 132m passengers by 2023.
Clear winners are MRO players - SIA Engg, ST Engineering, while SATS may face more competition from new entrants. Construction of these mega projects costing >S$1.5bn will raise construction demand, benefiting specialist contractor like Yong Nam and building material supplier Pan United.

The Prime Minister outlined plans to expand and upgrade Changi Airport. Along with existing plans, these include:
1. A new ‘Jewel’ project at Changi Terminal 1,
2. Continuous upgrading of the existing 3 Terminals,
3. Terminal 4 being built on the site of the previous budget terminal and to be completed by 2017,
4. A third runway by 2020 and
5. Terminal 5 with an annual handling capacity of (at least) 50m passengers to be built by the mid 2020s.
