AAIS releases inaugural solar adoption report
The report is the first of its kind in the aerospace industry.
The Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore) (AAIS) announced the release of its inaugural Singapore Aerospace Industry Solar Adoption Report (SAISAR).
The report covers solar data from Singapore-based aerospace companies that currently or are planning to use solar systems in their facilities. As such, this serves as the first industry-led sector-specific of its kind and aims to inspire other industries as well.
Key findings point to a rate of 83.6% adoption of solar power. Solar capacity, as of June 2021, has reached a peak of 19.65 megawatts.
65,000 solar panels have also been installed in aerospace facilities throughout Singapore, producing more than 21,000-megawatt hours of electricity per year.
The report also concludes that the industry, with its use of solar energy, avoids 8.65million kgCO2 of carbon emissions in a year.
AAIS CEO Sia Kheng Yok stressed the importance of this report given the current environmental climate.
“This is an important benchmark study for us, and a timely one. The recent report from the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change provided a stark warning about the risks of inaction, and the need for urgent collective efforts towards environmental sustainability.”
