
Changi Airport passenger movements up 9.9% in Q1 as Asian traffic jumps
Bangkok was again the top market.
Passenger traffic at Singapore's Changi Airport rose 9.9% to 14.4 million in the first three months of the year, boosted by double-digit growth for Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East & Africa.
For the first quarter, Bangkok moved to the top of the cities list, accounting for over a million passenger movements. Aircraft movements rose 5.6% to 88,790, while airfreight movements registered an increase of 3.3%, totalling 450,440 tonnes.
Passenger movement rose 8.1% year-on-year to 4.90 million travellers in March. Traffic to and from Thailand, Malaysia and China registered double-digit increases for the third consecutive month in March, while all of Changi Airport’s top 10 country markets grew by at least 4%.
In March, aircraft movements were 4.6% higher at 30,130 landings and takeoffs, while cargo shipments increased 5.2% to reach 170,880 tonnes, compared to the same period last year.
