Changi Airport passenger movements grew 4% to 16.4 million in Q1
Passenger movements in China, Japan, and North Asia led the growth and offset the declines from Southeast Asia.
Changi Airport has registered a 4% growth in passenger movements to 16.4 million whilst aircraft movements were stable at 32,400 landings and takeoffs, according to a release revealed by the firm.
Air freight movements registered a 3.8% decline for the quarter, totalling 493,000 tonnes, due to a slowdown in global trade flows, all cargo flows – exports, imports and transhipments – have weakened.
In March, Changi Airport recorded 5.63 million passenger movements, a 1.4% YoY increase. Aircraft movements were stable at 32,400 landings and takeoffs, whilst airfreight throughput dipped 1.5% to 185,000 tonnes for the month.
Whilst growth was observed for most regions during the month, Southeast Asia traffic dipped 2%. This was offset by North Asia traffic which increased 5%, boosted by growth for China and Japan.
As at 1 April, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 400 cities in about 100 countries and territories worldwide. With more than 7,400 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 80 seconds.
