Changi Airport snatches crown as world's best airport
The airport took the title from Doha Hamad Airport.
Changi Airport has been named the world's best airport by airline research group Skytrax, bumping Doha Hamad Airport from the throne.
Rounding up the top 10 are Tokyo Haneda (3rd), Seoul Incheon (4th), Paris CDG (5th), Istanbul (6th), Munich (7th), Zurich (8th), Tokyo Narita (9th), and Madrid Barajas (10th).
The airline research group has conducted airport customer satisfaction surveys since 1999.
With over 500 airports covered, the survey was conducted from August 2022 to February 2023.
The survey included traveller’s feedback toward various international airports and their services. Key performance indicators were check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration.
This year marked the 12th time Changi Airport was recognised by Skytrax.
Since its opening year 1981, Changi Airport has built four operational terminals for both domestic and international flights.
As of September last year, the airport announced its plans for a fifth terminal called Terminal 5 or “Changi East”.
It will be constructed with a three-runway system, tunnels and underground systems, landside and aviation support facilities, and industrial zone.
Developing the new area would cover 1,080 hectares or equivalent to Singapore’s Pan Island Expressway.
This will be Changi Airport’s largest expansion to date and will be undertaken by Changi Airport Group, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and the Ministry of Transport.
