
Changi Airport's August passenger movements grew 7.9% to 5.68 million
Airfreight throughput rose 1.8% to 184,000 tonnes.
Passenger movements in Changi Airport jumped 7.9% YoY to 5.68m in August, an announcement revealed. Aircraft movements increased 3.6% to 32,890 landings and takeoffs, whilst airfreight throughput grew 1.8% YoY to 184,000 tonnes.
Across all regions, passenger traffic increased. Traffic to and from Oceania hit a double-digit increase (+10%) for the first time in 2018, recording over 570,000 passenger movements. Meanwhile, Europe and South Asia recorded strong growth with passenger traffic jumping 22% and 13%, respectively.
Amongst Changi’s top ten markets, nine recorded higher traffic. Melbourne (+16%), Sydney (+13%) and Manila (+12%) were amongst the cities which registered double-digit growth.
As of 1 September, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, giving the Lion City connectivity to around 400 cities in about 100 countries and territories worldwide. With more than 7,200 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 80 seconds.
