Changi Airport's February passenger movements edged up by 9.2%

But airfreight movements dropped.

According to a release, Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.12 million passenger movements in February 2013, an increase of 9.2% over the same month last year.

Aircraft movements for the month grew by 4.2% to 25,900 flights. Travel demand was boosted by the Lunar New Year holidays which this year fell in February compared to January last year.

Among Changi Airport’s top 10 country markets, traffic between Singapore and Australia, China, Hong Kong and Japan each grew by more than 10%.

The Lunar New Year holidays had the opposite effect on Changi Airport’s airfreight movements which declined 12.1% compared to a year ago to 126,500 tonnes in the month of February.

Passenger movements have risen 5.3% to 8.44 million in the first two months of the year, with aircraft movements growing by a corresponding 3.2% to 54,100.

Year-to-date, airfreight movements have declined 5.0% to 266,800 tonnes. As at 1 March 2013, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 240 cities in some 60 countries and territories worldwide.

With more than 6,400 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 100 seconds.
